HANDWERKSTATT 2015_2016

Structural programme_series of workshops. The HANDWERKSTATT is an inclusive series of design workshops. The series consists of five workshops for disabled people in Northern Germany; they have been conducted by KONTEXT in cooperation with the HFBK - the University of Fine Arts of Hamburg since April 2016. Design students, designers and artisans cooperate with the staff of the individual workshops and together they create a new interpretation of manual techniques. The idea behind it is to redefine the workshops for disabled people as manufactures or social enterprises.

ARTplus since 2015

Structural programme. The ARTplus programme was launched in Hamburg in 2015. It is a two-year pilot project that focuses on improving the work and training conditions of disabled artists in the cultural sector. Content-related and strategic measures were developed with the support of the Federal Commissioner for Culture and Media, and in close cooperation with the Kulturbehörde Hamburg (Ministry for Culture). The objective of these measures, directed at artists with mental and psychiatric disorders in particular, is to pave their way into established cultural institutions and training facilities.

OUT OF MEA SHEARIM 2014_2015

Theatre. This documentary theatre production by Evgeni and Yulia Mesteschkin was based on biographies, stories, thoughts and feelings of young ex-ultra Orthodox Jerusalemites who left the neighbourhood of Mea Shearim. Working together in close cooperation with the young protagonists, they developed a play that described their struggle for survival and their search for answers. The play was performed in the Beit Mazia Theater in Jerusalem and in the Deutsche Schauspielhaus Hamburg.

IN/ZWISCHEN Kreative Koexistenzen 2015

Festival and Theatre Platform. The cooperations between disabled and non-disabled theatre groups that have emerged in the past few years were used as an opportunity to examine their structures and forms within the context of a theatre platform. What work methods exist? How are the power relationships distributed?  How do the audience and the press view the work? And what artistic standards do the festival managers and theatre directors set? In addition to the project descriptions and workshop performances by international theatre groups, it included an expert conference with lectures, workshops and the presentation of projects.

UNIC AWARD UND UNIC DESIGN 2013_2014

Design competition. The UNIC AWARD is a design prize that is awarded to disabled designers as well as to design teams with disabled and non-disabled designers. In contrast to standard design competitions, the UNIC AWARD is mainly about the original and creative qualities of the items. The entries were assessed and selected by representatives of an expert jury who have made significant contributions to the contemporary design landscape with their exhibition methods, a career in journalism or product designs. An Internet portal launched parallel to the award includes a gallery as well as contributions about current projects in the participative design sector.

WELTGESTALTER 2012_2013

Design cooperations. In 2012, numerous design cooperations between disabled and non-disabled designers were formed with different art workshops and design colleges. The aim was to put inclusive design processes to the test. The products that were created were presented in the form of a travelling exhibition at various design fairs nationwide. This series of events was followed by a symposium on the topic of "social design" in Hamburg. A publication provides information about the methods, processes and products created during the project.

BUNDESFACHKONGRESS INTERKULTUR 2012

Conference. The aim of the Bundesfachkongress was to initiate a paradigm shift, which addresses this potential as a social opportunity rather than questioning the existing cultural diversity in Germany. KONTEXT was commissioned to bring together the different organisers and interest groups for the program planning, to participate in the context-related preparations and to moderate the overall process. In addition, KONTEXT developed the cultural program, took over the administration and budget planning, and also the organisational realisation of the event with over 450 participants. Furthermore, the task also involved the development and the implementation of the corporate design as well as all publication.

SHEMOVES - PROMOTION OF SPORTS FOR YOUNG MIGRANT WOMEN 2010_2011

Structural program/Campaign/Competition. Based on the fact that girls and young women with a migrant background make much less use of sports and exercise programs than their German peers, the Ministry for Internal Affairs and Sports in the City of Hamburg wanted to improve access to offers for this target group. KONTEXT was commissioned to create an Internet platform with the sports and exercise courses offered in Hamburg. The release of the new portal was coordinated with a dance competition and various promotional activities. The dance groups involved performed live at the STAMP-Festival in September 2010 and 2011.

SIMPLE LIFE 2004_2010

Festival. After a successful start in Berlin (Hebbel am Ufer) in 2004, KONTEXT was able to realise the SIMPLE LIFE FESTIVAL in Hamburg in 2010. The festival presented international artists who described people in special life situations in their dance and theatre performances. With a look at life in the social periphery, the pieces revolved around the biographies of the performers and addressed topics such as life in a body that does not correspond with the standard, poverty or social isolation. A symposium focused on this type of documentary theatre with the involvement of artistic amateurs as "experts in everyday life".

CANDOCANDANCE 2007_2006

Series of events. With CANDOCANDANCE, KONTEXT's objective was to bring community dance to Germany. KONTEXT achieved this by inviting five choreographers from England, Scotland, Ireland and Ethiopia to Hamburg to stage a dance project under the artistic direction of Royston Maldoon, with 200 participants - migrants, senior citizens, elementary school children and adolescent school quitters. The three-week rehearsal process was open to the public. The choreography was performed several times before a sold-out Schauspielhaus in Hamburg.

KINDER ZUM OLYMP 2005

Conference. The European conference "Learning from Practice", with over 800 participants, took place from 22.09. to 24.09.2005 at Kampnagel in Hamburg. GEBRÜDER WOLF 2001_2000

Exhebition_Publication. "An de Eck steith`n Jung mit`n Tüdelband" – probably the most popular traditional Hamburger song, dates back to the "Gebrüder Wolf", a vocal duet that celebrated its major breakthrough in Hamburg in 1911. Persecuted by the National Socialists, the works of these popular Jewish artists were long forgotten. An exhibition designed by Jens Huckeriede and Angela Müller-Giannetti brought them back into the present and describes their works in their successive stages in Hamburg, Shanghai, New York and California. A publication with a CD accompanied the exhibition.
